Ishant becomes third Indian fast bowler to take 300 wickets in Test
Chennai, 8 February
Veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma joined the ranks of legendary captains Kapil Dev and Anil Kumble, becoming India’s sixth bowler to take 300 wickets in a Test match on Monday.
He became the third Indian fast bowler to complete 300 wickets in the longest format by lbw Dan Lawrence in the second innings on the fourth day of the first Test match being played here against England.
Among the Indian bowlers, the highest wicket in Test has been taken by the great spinner Anil Kumble (619 wickets in 132 matches). Kapil is in second place while Harbhajan Singh (417 in 103 Tests) is third on the list. Ishant’s team-mate spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is fourth and Zaheer is fifth.
300 wickets in 98 matches
The 32-year-old Delhi player, however, took 98 matches to reach this milestone.
Ishant said after the day’s play, “Life has been very volatile so far. I had a lot of experience, I learned how to bowl abroad while learning about bowling in the subcontinent. “
Play only four T20 matches in domestic matches
“Feeling a bit tired, I have bowled around 35 overs after playing just four T20 matches in home matches,” he said.
In the first Test against England, India have set a target of 420 runs to win and after seeing the team’s great performance in Australia, they are positive about it.
“If we get good tomorrow then we can achieve this goal. We have a fearless batting line-up and we are very positive about it.”
The fast bowler said, “It took two days before the match that we are playing on a flat road, but from the fourth day the pitch helped the spinners and we got some rest. Even after not getting help from the pitch, we bowled well for the first two days.”
After achieving this feat, he was congratulated by the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI tweeted, “Congratulations to Ishant Sharma, he became the third Indian fast bowler to take 300 wickets in Tests. He gave England a third blow by lbw Dan Lawrence. “
Ishant Sharma the third Indian fast bowler
The International Cricket Council (ICC) also praised his 13 years of hard work on this achievement. The ICC wrote on Twitter, “Ishant Sharma is the third Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan to touch 300 wickets in Tests. Great achievement. “
Five wickets in 11 innings
Ishant has taken five wickets in 11 innings in his career while once he has taken 10 wickets in a match. Ishant, who made his international debut in 2007 against Bangladesh, had an early discussion on the way Australia’s veteran captain Ricky Ponting was troubled in the early days.
Ishant, however, took the most matches to reach this milestone. Ashwin is the lowest Indian bowler to reach 54 matches at this stage. He is followed by Kumble (66), Harbhajan (72), Kapil (83) and Zaheer (89).
