Sports Ministry assisted Rs. 2.5 lakh to the wrestler of MP
New Delhi |
The Sports Ministry has approved financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh to Madhya Pradesh wrestler Sunny Jadhav, who was found to be working to meet his needs.
Jadhav was provided financial support from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Sportsperson Welfare Fund.
Jadhav won a silver medal in the under-23 Junior National Wrestling Championship in Chittor, Rajasthan in 2018 and the 60 kg Greco Roman category at the Khelo India University Games in Bhubaneswar in 2020.
For the last few months, he had to work like washing the car of others to continue his practice of wrestling. “Despite hard work, he was unable to raise the money for his diet and had to take a loan to continue the exercise,” the ministry said in a release.
Sunny’s father died of brain haemorrhage in 2017 after which his financial condition worsened.
The Deendayal Upadhyay National Sportsmen’s Welfare Fund helps sportspersons to practice, buy equipment, participate in national and international sports tournaments.
