Verstappen was fastest in Turkish Grand Prix’s first practise session
Istanbul, 13 November |
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took the fastest time in the first practise session for the Turkish Grand Prix on Friday while other drivers battled on slippery tracks that have not been used for the Formula One race since 2011.
A new asphalt surface has been laid on the Istanbul Park circuit, on which it is very difficult to make a grip. The cold made it more difficult, causing the drivers to be very cautious, whose laps were 10 seconds shorter than expected.
“It was like racing on ice,” said Verstappen.
The Netherlands driver was 0.24 seconds ahead of his partner Alexander Alban and 0.43 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s driver Charles Lerk.
Lewis Hamilton, who topped the championship, finished 15th, but the Mercedes driver took no risks.
