Time to remove Kohli from RCB captaincy
New Delhi, 7th November |
Gautam Gambhir believes that he should be removed from the post after Virat Kohli’s disappointing performance as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as it is now a question of accountability. Gambhir has been a part of the Indian cricket team’s former opener and two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion team.
Gambhir, who is known to put his point in the reckless manner, said that Kohli should not be named as captain along with legends Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. These two are the most successful captain of the IPL.
According to espnincricinfo, when asked if RCB should relieve Kohli from the responsibility of captaincy, Gambhir said, “100 per cent, because now the issue is about accountability. Eight years in the tournament (without the title), eight years is a long time. “
The former player, who was the hero of India’s T20 World Cup and one-day World Cup winning team, said, “You tell me about another captain, leave the captain, tell me about another player, who has been in a team for eight years Did not win the title even after being with the team and still remains with the team.
Gambhir, who made Kolkata Knight Riders IPL champions in 2012 and 2014 under his captaincy, said at the “Time Out” program, “There must be some accountability.”
Gambhir has been a critic of Kohli’s IPL leadership over the years, but insisted that there was nothing personal about it.
He said, “There has to be a line somewhere, he has to say responsibly that, Yes I am responsible, I am accountable.”
Gambhir then gave the example of former Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin, saying, “Eight years (Kohli’s captaincy) is a long time. Look at Ashwin what happened to him. He remained captain for two years but was dropped if the team did not perform. “
He said, “We talk about the captaincy of Dhoni, Rohit and Kohli but this is not fair from anywhere. Dhoni has won three titles, Rohit has won four titles. He has given results so he is the captain for so long. “
He said, “I am sure if Rohit Sharma too had failed for eight years, he would have been removed. There should not be different scales for different people.”
He said that RCB has become a team that revolves around only two players Kohli and AB de Villiers. In this year also only de Villiers could perform match-winning performance.
He said, “Think if this season was not good for de Villiers then what would happen to RCB.”
